Rearranging Reality

Rearranging Reality - is a collection of "what if..." stories.  It's a collection of 20 short pieces, most of which re-imagine the world in slightly different ways.

Can a government change the way we think and vote? Can writers create reality by writing about it? Can a reader influence a writer? Were Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood really as innocent as we think?

​

This collection of short stories asks the ‘what if …?’ question of normal circumstances and of some traditional folk tales and comes up with some surprising answers.The stories approach the mundane and the everyday from a sideways perspective and turn them around to make them a little less ordinary.

Scenes from a Marriage and Other Bits of Life

Scenes from a Marriage and Other Bits of Life - is a collection of 20 poems, some light-hearted, some more serious, dealing with issues which may, or may not, arise in a long standing marriage. There are also pieces on other aspects of life like exercise and freedom.

​

Some of the pieces are taken from Of Kith and Kin a stage performance written with fellow writer Paul Ogden.

Not Just Bacon

Not Just Bacon - is a collection of pieces written by members of the Calne WordFest Writers' Group. The intention was to encourage nascent writers who had not been in print before to publish something they could be proud of.

​

I have two pieces in there - Ghost Writer and Making Plans - both of which are also in Rearranging Reality.

​

The title was chosen because up to the 1980's Calne was dominated by Harris's, a meat processing company that specialised in pig based products. We wanted to show that there was more to Calne than that legacy.

​

The cover design is based on the Calne town flag.

​

Calne WordFest is Calne's literacy charity. It aims to encourage literacy at all levels throughout the community.

Not Just Oxygen

Not Just Oxygen - is an anthology of work from writers from Calne to celebrate 2024 as the 250th anniversary of the date that Joseph priestly separated and identified oxygen as a gas. He was living in Calne and working at Bowood at the time.  There were a number of events throughout the year including the Calne Community Quilt.

​

The pieces in Not Just Oxygen all relate to Priestley, oxygen, science and the events surrounding the celebration. They include the winners of writing competitions which were carried out in local schools.

​
